Scrims gone Hollywood: Every country, every community and every crew has its own traditions. In Hollywood, the gaffers have found a solution to be prepared for any lighting change: plan for a light source with a power far beyond what the script calls for and dim it mechanically with one or two full double scrims. When more intensity is needed, one or both scrims are pulled out. Scriming allows the power to be reduced without changing the color temperature. It is much easier than dimming lamps, faster than putting in a stronger spotlight and much faster than correcting the color temperature after electrical dimming.
